ANSORP has been successfully performing multinational projects on surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in major pathogens in Asian countries since 1996 with many publications in the international scientific journals.Through these actives, ANSORP will certainly contribute to the future control strategies of resistance problem in the AP region.

Multinational study on pneumococcal resistance among invasive isolates
Title The clinical impact of antimicrobial resistance among invasive pneumococcal pathogens in Asian countries
Principle Investigator Dr. Jae-Hoon Song (Korea)
Study Period Jan 1998 ~ Mar 2001
Participating
Countries/Areas (Centers)
Korea, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam (10 centers)
Summary This study has shown increases in both the prevalence of macrolide resistance and the distribution of major determinants of macrolide resistance in pneumococci from Asian countries. In addition, molecular studies suggest the clonal spread of resistant strains in the Asian region, which could be one of the major reasons for the rapid increase in macrolide resistance.
