GPI Annual Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on May 3-4, 2019 ANSORP

The Global Pertussis Initiative (GPI) Annual Meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 3-4, 2019Drs. Yae-Jean Kim (Korea) and Cheng-Hsun Chiu (Taiwan), ANSORP Pediatric group Lead, were invited to the GPI based on their expertise and the successful accomplishment of the first ANSORP Pediatric study on pertussis. At the GPI meeting, the epidemiology of pertussis, surveillance system and current pertussis vaccine policy status in Asian countries were discussed. The future plan of GPI in Asian region is to provide summarized current status of pertussis in Asian countries, and to perform collaborative research on pertussis. 

The Global Pertussis initiative (GPI), which was established in 2001 in recognition of the resurgence of pertussis, is a scientific group with a large breadth and depth of expertise in pertussis. The GPI was established with the mission below:

- Raise the profile of pertussis as an important and preventable disease that warrants greater global public health attention

- Recommend effective immunization strategies for pertussis control

- Advocate for improved disease surveillance to optimize guidance on public policy and vaccine implementation strategies.
